The Nativity scene of Jesus’ birth on came to life during Christmas in the Park on Dec. 11.
Held in the Kutztown Park Tennis Court Pavilion, the event — sponsored by a group of Kutztown churches — featured a live Nativity scene, caroling, live music, crafts and refreshments.
The Nativity was portrayed by members of several area congregations, including St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Paul’s UCC and St. John’s Lutheran of Kutztown. Mary and Joseph were played by Kelly and Jeff Koegel.
Mark Reppert, music director at St. John’s, read the Christmas story.
Kutztown Area High School Band Director Dustin Shirk and students Solar Sprinkle and Jesse Hastings performed a few favorite Christmas songs on trumpet and clarinet. Kutztown musician Keith Brintzenhoff sang Christmas carols, shared local folklore and played guitar.
While the weather outside was a wintry mix of cold, snow and sleet, those gathered could warm up by a fire in the hearth in the pavilion.
